Ingredients
Scale
Calzone Dough
- 1 pound pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)
Filling
- 1 cup cooked chicken breast, shredded or chopped
- 1/2 cup Alfredo sauce
- 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/4 teaspoon Italian seasoning
For Assembly
- 1 egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- Olive oil spray
Instructions
- Preheat the Air Fryer: Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for 3 to 5 minutes to ensure even cooking and a crispy crust.
- Prepare the Dough: On a floured surface, divide the pizza dough into 4 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a 6-inch circle, forming the base for each calzone.
- Make the Filling: In a small bowl, combine the cooked chicken, Alfredo sauce, mozzarella, Parmesan, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning. Mix well to distribute the flavors evenly.
- Fill the Calzones: Spoon an equal amount of the chicken and cheese mixture onto one half of each dough circle, leaving a border around the edges to seal.
- Seal the Calzones: Fold the dough over to form a half-moon shape. Press the edges firmly together, then crimp with a fork to ensure the filling stays inside during cooking.
- Apply Egg Wash and Oil: Brush the tops of the calzones with the beaten egg to give a golden color when cooked. Lightly spray with olive oil to promote crispiness.
- Cook in Air Fryer: Place 2 calzones in the air fryer basket so they don’t touch. Cook for 8 to 10 minutes, flipping halfway through the cooking time to achieve even browning and ensure the filling is heated through.
- Repeat Cooking: Remove cooked calzones and repeat with the remaining two calzones.
- Cool and Serve: Let the calzones cool for a few minutes before serving to allow the filling to set slightly and prevent burns.
Notes
- For convenience, substitute rotisserie chicken instead of cooking chicken breast separately.
- Enhance the filling by adding chopped spinach or sautéed mushrooms for extra flavor and nutrition.
- Serve with extra Alfredo sauce or marinara sauce on the side for dipping.
