Description

A quick and flavorful Beef and Pepper Rice Bowl featuring tender marinated flank steak sautéed with colorful bell peppers and onions, served over steaming white rice. This easy-to-make dish combines savory Asian-inspired sauces with fresh vegetables to create a satisfying weeknight meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Beef Marinade

  • 1 lb flank steak or sirloin, thinly sliced
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch

Vegetables and Rice

  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 red bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 yellow bell pepper, sliced
  • 1 small onion, sliced
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 cups cooked white rice (or brown rice)

Seasoning and Garnish

  • Salt and black pepper, to taste
  • Green onions and sesame seeds, for garnish (optional)

Instructions

  1. Marinate the Beef: In a medium bowl, combine the thinly sliced beef with soy sauce, oyster sauce, sesame oil, and cornstarch. Toss well to coat evenly and let it marinate for 10 minutes to absorb the flavors.
  2. Heat the Oil: Warm 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat, preparing the pan for cooking the beef.
  3. Cook the Beef: Add the marinated beef to the hot skillet and cook for 2 to 3 minutes until it turns brown on the outside but remains tender inside. Remove the beef from the skillet and set aside to prevent overcooking.
  4. Sauté Vegetables: In the same skillet, add a little more oil if needed. Add the sliced onions and red and yellow bell peppers and sauté for 3 to 4 minutes until they become just tender but still retain some crispness.
  5. Add Garlic: Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional 30 seconds until fragrant, enhancing the aroma of the dish.
  6. Combine Beef and Vegetables: Return the cooked beef to the skillet and toss everything together thoroughly, allowing the flavors to meld and the beef to heat through evenly.
  7. Season and Serve: Season with salt and black pepper to taste. Serve the beef and pepper mixture hot over cooked white or brown rice. Garnish with green onions and sesame seeds if desired for added flavor and texture.

Notes

  • For a healthier option, substitute white rice with brown rice or cauliflower rice.
  • You can swap flank steak with sirloin or another tender cut of beef.
  • Adjust the amount of soy and oyster sauce to your taste preference for saltiness and savoriness.
  • Adding a splash of rice vinegar or a pinch of chili flakes can enhance the flavor profile.
  • Make sure to slice the beef thinly to ensure quick cooking and tenderness.
  • If desired, garnish with fresh cilantro or a squeeze of lime for a citrusy note.
