Description

A rich and flavorful Black Garlic Teriyaki Sauce that combines the deep umami of black garlic with the traditional sweet and savory elements of teriyaki. This sauce is perfect for glazing meats, drizzling over vegetables, or mixing into noodles for an easy upgrade to your meals.

Ingredients

Scale

Black Garlic Sauce Base

  • 2 Black Garlic Cloves, whole
  • 1/2 cup Water
  • 1/2 tsp Fresh Ginger

Sauce Ingredients

  • 1/3 cup Soy Sauce
  • 1/4 tsp Sesame Oil
  • 2 Tbsp Brown Sugar
  • 1 Tbsp Honey
  • 1 cup Cool Water + 1 Tbsp Cornstarch (mixed together)

Instructions

  1. Blend Ingredients: In a blender, combine the whole black garlic cloves, fresh ginger, and 1/2 cup of water. Blend for about 20 seconds until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
  2. Cook Sauce: Pour the blended garlic mixture into a saucepot. Add the soy sauce, sesame oil, brown sugar, honey, and the cornstarch mixed with cool water. Stir thoroughly to combine all the ingredients evenly.
  3. Thicken Sauce: Place the saucepot over medium heat and bring the mixture to a boil. Once boiling, reduce the heat and let it simmer gently for about 15 minutes. Stir occasionally during this time until the sauce thickens and is thick enough to coat the back of a spoon.
  4. Serve: Remove the sauce from heat. Use it immediately as a glaze for meats, a topping for vegetables, or mixed into noodles. Any leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for later use.

Notes

  • Black garlic provides a mellow, sweet, and umami flavor different from raw garlic, enhancing the depth of the sauce.
  • The sauce thickens as it simmers; do not overcook to avoid burning or excessive thickening.
  • Adjust sweetness by modifying the amount of brown sugar and honey according to taste preferences.
  • This sauce keeps well refrigerated for up to one week.
  • Use gluten-free soy sauce to make the recipe gluten-free.
