Description

Delight in these easy-to-make Caramel Apple Puff Pastries, a perfect blend of flaky puff pastry, tender cinnamon-spiced apples, and rich caramel sauce. This dessert is crisp on the outside with a sweet, fruity filling inside, served warm and optionally paired with vanilla ice cream for an indulgent treat.

Ingredients

Scale

Puff Pastry

  • 1 sheet puff pastry (thawed but still cold)

Filling

  • 2 apples (cored and thinly sliced)
  • 6 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 1½ tablespoons butter (sliced into 6 thin slices)

Topping

  • 4-6 tablespoons caramel sauce
  • Vanilla ice cream for serving (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Sugar Mixture: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C). While the puff pastry sheet is thawing, slice the apples thinly. In a small bowl, combine granulated sugar, cinnamon, and salt, and set the mixture aside.
  2. Cut Puff Pastry: Place the thawed sheet of puff pastry on a baking sheet. Cut it into six equal rectangles. Using a fork, poke several holes in the center of each rectangle to prevent excessive puffing in the middle during baking.
  3. Assemble Pastries: Arrange thin slices of apple in a line along the center of each puff pastry rectangle, overlapping slightly. Sprinkle each with about one tablespoon of the cinnamon sugar mixture and top with one thin slice of butter.
  4. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 18-20 minutes until the pastries are puffed and have turned a light golden brown.
  5. Add Caramel and Serve: Remove the pastries from the oven and drizzle with caramel sauce while still warm. Serve immediately, optionally accompanied by vanilla ice cream for added richness and texture.

Notes

  • Ensure the puff pastry is cold but thawed to get the best puff and flaky texture.
  • Use tart apple varieties like Granny Smith for a nice contrast with the sweet caramel.
  • Adjust the amount of caramel and cinnamon sugar according to your preference for sweetness and spice.
  • Serve immediately to maintain crispness of the pastry.
  • For a dairy-free option, use plant-based butter and caramel sauce.
