Ingredients
Scale
Dry Ingredients
- 2 cups whole wheat flour
- 1/2 cup rolled oats
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Wet Ingredients
- 1 cup grated carrot
- 1/2 cup finely chopped apple (no seeds or core)
- 1/4 cup natural peanut butter (xylitol-free)
- 1 egg
- 1/4 cup water (more if needed)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven and Prepare Baking Sheet: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prevent sticking and ensure even baking.
- Mix Dry Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the whole wheat flour, rolled oats, and ground cinnamon, stirring together to evenly distribute the cinnamon and oats throughout the flour.
- Add Wet Ingredients: Stir in the grated carrot, finely chopped apple, natural peanut butter, egg, and 1/4 cup of water into the dry mixture. Mix until a dough forms, adding additional water one tablespoon at a time if the dough feels too dry and crumbly for rolling.
- Roll and Cut Dough: Lightly flour a clean surface and roll the dough out to about 1/4-inch thickness. Use cookie cutters to cut into desired shapes that are easy for your dog to handle and chew.
- Bake the Cookies: Place the cutouts on the prepared baking sheet and bake in the preheated oven for 30 to 35 minutes, or until the cookies turn golden brown and are firm to the touch.
- Cool and Store: Allow the cookies to cool completely on a wire rack before serving. Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to one week or refrigerate for longer freshness.
Notes
- Always use peanut butter that does not contain xylitol, as it is toxic to dogs.
- If your dog has a wheat sensitivity, substitute oat flour for whole wheat flour.
- These treats are meant to be occasional snacks and should not replace a balanced diet.
- Ensure apples are free from seeds and core before chopping.
- Allow treats to cool fully as warm cookies may soften and be difficult for dogs to handle.
