Ingredients
Scale
Meat and Seasoning
- 1 small onion, diced
- 1 tablespoon garlic, minced
- 1 lb ground beef
- 2 tablespoons taco seasoning
Dough and Cheese
- 1 lb pizza dough, rolled out into a rectangle
- 1 cup Mexican cheese blend
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
Dipping Sauces
- Salsa, for dipping
- Guacamole, for dipping
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 425°F (220°C) so it’s ready for baking the breadsticks.
- Sauté Aromatics: In a skillet over medium heat, sauté the diced onion and minced garlic until they become soft and fragrant, about 3-5 minutes.
- Cook Ground Beef: Add the ground beef and 2 tablespoons of taco seasoning to the skillet. Cook, breaking up the beef with a spoon, until it is browned and cooked through, about 7-10 minutes. Remove from heat.
- Prepare Dough Strips: Roll out the pizza dough into a rectangular shape and cut it into 5 equal strips to form the breadsticks.
- Assemble Breadsticks: Spoon the cooked beef mixture evenly onto each dough strip, then sprinkle the Mexican cheese blend on top. Fold the dough over the filling and seal the edges tightly to keep the filling inside.
- Brush with Olive Oil and Bake: Place the filled breadsticks on a baking sheet, brush the tops with 1 tablespoon of olive oil to help them brown nicely, and bake in the preheated oven for 10 minutes.
- Add More Cheese and Continue Baking: Remove the breadsticks from the oven, sprinkle additional Mexican cheese on top of each, then return to the oven and bake for an additional 5 minutes until the cheese is melted and bubbly.
- Serve Warm: Serve the cheesy taco breadsticks warm, alongside salsa and guacamole for dipping.
Notes
- You can customize the taco seasoning to your preferred spice level or use homemade seasoning.
- Use pre-shredded Mexican cheese blend or a mix of cheddar, Monterey Jack, and queso quesadilla for best results.
- For a crispier crust, let the dough rest at room temperature for 10 minutes before rolling out.
- These breadsticks reheat well in the oven at 350°F for 5-7 minutes.
- For a vegetarian option, substitute the ground beef with cooked black beans or plant-based meat.
