Ingredients
Scale
Wet Ingredients
- 3 ripe bananas (mashed)
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- ½ cup unsalted butter (melted)
- 2 large eggs
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- ½ cup sour cream or plain yogurt
Dry Ingredients
- 1 ½ cups all-purpose flour
- ½ cup unsweetened cocoa powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- ½ teaspoon salt
Add-ins
- 1 cup semi-sweet chocolate chips
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare Pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and grease a 9×5-inch loaf pan to prevent sticking.
- Mix Wet Ingredients: In a large bowl, combine the mashed bananas, sugar, melted butter, eggs, and vanilla extract. Whisk until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
- Sift Dry Ingredients: In a separate bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, unsweetened cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt to ensure even distribution.
- Combine Mixtures: Add the dry ingredients into the banana mixture and stir gently just until the batter is combined without overmixing to keep the bread tender.
- Fold in Sour Cream and Chocolate Chips: Carefully fold in the sour cream or yogurt and semi-sweet chocolate chips until they are evenly distributed throughout the batter.
- Transfer to Pan and Bake: Pour the batter into the prepared loaf pan and smooth the top with a spatula. Bake for 55–65 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out mostly clean with a few moist crumbs.
- Cool: Allow the bread to cool in the pan for 10 minutes before transferring it to a wire rack to cool completely. This helps the loaf set and makes slicing easier.
Notes
- For extra texture and flavor, consider adding ½ cup of chopped walnuts or pecans to the batter.
- Substitute semi-sweet chocolate chips with dark chocolate chips if you prefer a richer chocolate taste.
