Description

A creamy and flavorful herb and onion dip made with cream cheese, sour cream, and a blend of herbs and seasonings. This easy-to-prepare dip is perfect for parties, snacks, or anytime you want a savory accompaniment to chips and veggies.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 8 ounces cream cheese, softened
  • 2 cups sour cream (light sour cream can be used)
  • 1 packet (about 1 ounce) dry onion soup mix
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley (or 1 teaspoon dried parsley)
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh chives (or 1 teaspoon dried chives)
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon onion powder
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Optional: chopped green onions or additional fresh herbs for garnish

Instructions

  1. Combine cream cheese and sour cream: In a mixing bowl, blend the softened cream cheese and sour cream together until the mixture is smooth and creamy, ensuring no lumps remain.
  2. Add seasonings and herbs: Stir in the dry onion soup mix, chopped fresh parsley, chopped fresh chives, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Mix thoroughly to distribute the flavors evenly throughout the dip.
  3. Chill the dip: Cover the bowl with plastic wrap or a lid and refrigerate the dip for at least 1 hour. This resting time allows the flavors to meld and the dip to thicken.
  4. Serve: Before serving, give the dip a good stir. Garnish with chopped green onions or additional fresh herbs if desired, then serve chilled with your choice of chips, crackers, or fresh vegetables.

Notes

  • Soften the cream cheese beforehand by leaving it at room temperature for about 30 minutes for easier mixing.
  • For a lighter dip, use light or reduced-fat sour cream.
  • You can substitute fresh herbs with dried ones if fresh are unavailable, but adjust quantities as dried herbs are more concentrated.
  • Adjust salt and pepper according to taste; the dry onion soup mix may already contain salt.
  • The dip can be made up to 24 hours ahead for better flavor infusion.
