Description

Crescent Pizza Rolls are a quick and delicious appetizer or snack featuring savory Italian sausage, melty mozzarella cheese, and pizza sauce wrapped in flaky crescent roll dough. Perfect for parties or casual gatherings, these rolls bake up golden brown with optional Parmesan and Italian seasoning for extra flavor.

Ingredients

Scale

Sausage Filling

  • 1 lb Italian sausage (casings removed)
  • 1 cup pizza sauce
  • 1½ cups shredded mozzarella cheese

Dough and Toppings

  • 2 (8-oz) cans refrigerated crescent dinner rolls
  • Grated Parmesan cheese (optional)
  • Italian seasoning (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350ºF (175ºC) to prepare for baking the crescent rolls.
  2. Cook Sausage: In a large skillet over medium-high heat, cook the Italian sausage until it is no longer pink, breaking it up as it cooks. Drain any excess grease from the skillet.
  3. Mix Filling: Add the pizza sauce and shredded mozzarella cheese to the cooked sausage in the skillet. Stir everything together until well combined and the cheese begins to melt.
  4. Prepare Dough: Separate each can of crescent dough into 8 rectangles by sealing the seams carefully to create a smooth surface for filling.
  5. Assemble Rolls: Spread the sausage mixture along the center of each dough rectangle. Fold the long edges upwards to cover the filling completely, then cut each rectangle into 4 smaller squares.
  6. Arrange on Baking Sheet: Place the filled squares seam-side down on a parchment-lined baking sheet. Sprinkle the tops with grated Parmesan cheese and a dash of Italian seasoning if desired.
  7. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 13 to 15 minutes or until the crescent rolls are puffed and golden brown. Let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

  • Make sure to drain excess grease from the cooked sausage to prevent soggy rolls.
  • You can substitute Italian sausage with turkey sausage for a leaner option.
  • Feel free to add chopped vegetables like bell peppers or mushrooms to the sausage mixture for extra flavor and nutrition.
  • These rolls can be prepared ahead of time and baked just before serving.
  • Serve with extra pizza sauce or marinara for dipping.
