Dollywood Cinnamon Bread is a warm, flavorful treat featuring soft, cinnamon-swirled bread topped with a sweet brown sugar crust and finished with a smooth powdered sugar glaze. Perfect for cozy mornings or afternoon snacks, this recipe uses thawed frozen bread dough, making it easy to prepare while delivering a comforting homemade taste.
Ingredients
Scale
For the Bread:
- 1 tablespoon cinnamon
- 1/2 cup sugar
- 1 pound frozen bread dough, thawed
- 1/4 cup brown sugar (sprinkled on top)
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
For the Glaze:
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2-3 tablespoons milk
Instructions
- Prepare the Pan: Lightly spray a loaf pan with cooking spray and line it with parchment paper. Also lightly spray the inside of the parchment paper to prevent sticking.
- Thaw the Dough: Place the frozen bread dough loaf in the prepared loaf pan and thaw it according to package instructions, usually taking between 4 to 7 hours, until it is fully softened.
- Mix Cinnamon Sugar: In a shallow dish, combine 1/4 cup sugar with 1 tablespoon cinnamon. Set this mixture aside; it will be used to coat the bread.
- Cut Slits in Dough: Using a sharp knife, slice 5 to 6 horizontal slits across the top of the dough, cutting about halfway down. These slits help the bread pull apart easily after baking.
- Coat with Butter and Cinnamon Sugar: Melt the butter and generously brush it over the entire top surface and inside the slits of the bread dough. Then liberally sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture over the butter-coated dough until well covered.
- Let Rise: Place the loaf pan in a warm location and allow the dough to rise for 30 minutes, helping it become light and fluffy before baking.
- Bake: After the dough has risen, evenly sprinkle the remaining 1/4 cup brown sugar on top. Bake the loaf at 350°F (175°C) for 30 minutes or until the bread is golden brown and cooked through.
- Make Glaze: While the bread is baking, whisk together the powdered sugar and 2 to 3 tablespoons of milk until smooth. Adjust the milk quantity to get a pourable glaze consistency.
- Glaze and Serve: Allow the baked bread to cool slightly. Then drizzle the prepared glaze over the warm bread. Serve immediately for the best cozy and flavorful experience.
Notes
- If your bread dough package has different thawing instructions, follow those for best results.
- The slits in the dough are essential to create the signature pull-apart effect.
- You can use whole milk or any milk alternative for the glaze.
- For an extra touch, sprinkle chopped nuts or raisins inside the cinnamon sugar before baking if desired.
- Store leftovers wrapped tightly at room temperature for up to 2 days or refrigerate for longer freshness.
