Ingredients
Scale
Cookies
- 1 package (14.3 oz) Golden Oreos or vanilla sandwich cookies
Filling
- 1 package (8 oz) cream cheese, softened
- 1/4 cup unsalted butter, softened
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 1 package (3.4 oz) instant vanilla pudding mix
- 2 cups cold milk
- 1 container (8 oz) whipped topping (like Cool Whip), thawed
Decoration
- Easter candies (chocolate eggs, bunny gummies, Peeps, etc.)
- Green-tinted shredded coconut (optional for “grass”)
Instructions
- Crush Oreos: Crush the Oreos in a food processor or by placing them in a zip-top bag and smashing with a rolling pin until fine crumbs form. Set aside.
- Prepare Cream Cheese Mixture: In a large bowl, beat cream cheese and softened butter until smooth. Add powdered sugar and mix until the mixture is fluffy.
- Make Pudding: In a separate bowl, whisk together instant vanilla pudding mix and cold milk for 2 minutes until the mixture thickens.
- Combine Mixtures: Fold the thickened pudding into the cream cheese mixture, then gently fold in the whipped topping until fully combined and smooth.
- Assemble Layers: In a 9×13-inch dish or trifle bowl, spread half of the crushed Oreos evenly on the bottom. Layer the cream filling mixture evenly over the cookies. Top with the remaining crushed Oreos.
- Decorate: Sprinkle green-tinted shredded coconut over the top to create a grassy effect. Decorate with assorted Easter candies to resemble a festive spring garden.
- Chill: Refrigerate the assembled dessert for at least 2 hours to allow it to set and flavors to meld before serving.
Notes
- For individual servings, layer the dirt cake in clear cups or mason jars for a fun presentation.
- Use chocolate Oreos and chocolate pudding for a richer, darker “dirt” version.
- Ensure the cream cheese and butter are softened for easier mixing and a smoother texture.
- Substitute coconut with green food coloring and shredded coconut for a more vibrant grass effect.
