Ingredients
Scale
Meat and Vegetables
- 1 pound thinly sliced ribeye steak or sirloin
- 1 small onion, sliced
- 1 green bell pepper, sliced
Bread and Cheese
- 1 large French bread loaf (about 18 inches)
- 8 slices provolone cheese
Seasonings and Others
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 2 tablespoons butter, melted
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- Chopped parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare Bread: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or foil. Slice the French bread loaf in half lengthwise and place both halves cut-side up on the prepared baking sheet.
- Sauté Vegetables: Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the sliced onion and green bell pepper, sautéing them for 3 to 4 minutes until softened.
- Cook Steak: Push the softened vegetables to the side of the skillet. Add the thinly sliced steak to the pan. Season with garlic powder, salt, and black pepper. Cook the steak for 4 to 5 minutes until just cooked through, then mix it evenly with the peppers and onions.
- Prepare Garlic Butter: In a small bowl, combine the melted butter and minced garlic. Brush this garlic butter generously over the cut sides of both bread halves.
- Assemble the Sandwich: Place 4 slices of provolone cheese on each bread half. Evenly distribute the cooked steak and pepper mixture over the cheese, then top with the remaining 4 slices of cheese on each half.
- Bake and Broil: Bake the assembled bread halves in the preheated oven for 10 to 12 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly. For a browned top, broil for an additional 1 to 2 minutes if desired.
- Serve: Remove from oven and let cool slightly. Slice into servings and garnish with chopped parsley if desired. Serve warm.
Notes
- For individual servings, substitute the large French loaf with hoagie rolls.
- Add mushrooms or jalapeños with the peppers and onions for extra flavor and spice.
- This recipe works wonderfully as a game day snack or party appetizer.
