Ingredients
Scale
Goat Cheese
- 8 oz goat cheese, chilled
Coating
- 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 large egg, beaten
- 3/4 cup panko breadcrumbs
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder (optional)
- 1/2 teaspoon dried thyme or parsley
For Frying
- Vegetable oil, for frying (about 1/2 inch deep)
Serving
- Honey or balsamic glaze for drizzling (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the Goat Cheese: Slice the chilled goat cheese into 1/2-inch rounds or roll into 1-inch balls. Place them on a tray and freeze for 15–20 minutes to firm up, which helps maintain shape during frying.
- Set up Breading Stations: Arrange three shallow bowls: one with the all-purpose flour, one with the beaten egg, and one with the panko breadcrumbs mixed with garlic powder and dried thyme or parsley for added flavor.
- Coat the Cheese Bites: Dip each chilled goat cheese piece first into the flour, ensuring it is lightly coated. Then dip it into the beaten egg, letting excess drip off, and finally coat thoroughly with the seasoned panko breadcrumbs.
- Heat Oil and Fry: Pour about 1/2 inch of vegetable oil into a skillet and heat over medium heat until hot but not smoking. Carefully add the coated goat cheese bites in batches to avoid overcrowding. Fry each side for 1–2 minutes until the coating is golden brown and crispy.
- Drain and Serve: Remove fried bites with a slotted spoon and place on paper towels to drain excess oil. Serve warm, optionally drizzled with honey or balsamic glaze to complement the tangy cheese with a touch of sweetness or acidity.
Notes
- Freezing the goat cheese before frying is essential to prevent them from melting too quickly and losing their shape.
- These bites pair wonderfully with a fresh arugula salad for a light meal or served as an elegant party appetizer.
- Use a neutral oil with a high smoke point like vegetable oil for frying to ensure crispiness without burning.
