Description

Garlic Parmesan Herb Cruffins are a delightful blend of flaky puff pastry rolled with a savory mixture of garlic, Parmesan, and fresh herbs. These golden, spiral-shaped treats are perfect as an appetizer, side dish, or snack, offering a crisp outer layer with rich, flavorful layers inside. Ideal for parties or a cozy snack, these cruffins combine classic European-inspired flavors with easy baking techniques.

Ingredients

Scale

Pastry

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed (or crescent roll dough)

Filling and Topping

  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 tablespoon chopped fresh parsley (or 1 teaspoon dried)
  • ½ teaspoon dried Italian seasoning
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • Extra Parmesan and herbs for topping (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prepare Muffin Tin: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a standard muffin tin to prevent the cruffins from sticking during baking.
  2. Roll Out Puff Pastry: On a lightly floured surface, roll out the puff pastry sheet to smooth out any creases and create an even thickness.
  3. Mix Garlic-Parmesan Butter: In a small bowl, combine the melted butter, minced garlic, grated Parmesan cheese, chopped parsley, dried Italian seasoning, salt, and black pepper, mixing thoroughly.
  4. Brush Mixture over Pastry: Evenly brush the garlic-Parmesan butter mixture over the entire surface of the rolled-out pastry.
  5. Roll and Slice Pastry: Starting from the long side, tightly roll the pastry into a log. Then carefully slice the log lengthwise in half to expose the layered interior.
  6. Form Spirals: With the cut side facing out, roll each half into a spiral shape resembling a cinnamon roll and place each spiral into a greased muffin cup.
  7. Bake Cruffins: Bake the cruffins for 18–22 minutes until they puff up and turn golden brown.
  8. Cool and Serve: Allow the cruffins to cool in the muffin tin for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack. Sprinkle extra Parmesan and herbs on top if desired, and serve warm.

Notes

  • Best enjoyed fresh but can be reheated in the oven or air fryer.
  • Add a pinch of red pepper flakes to the butter mixture for a spicy version.
  • Use crescent roll dough as a convenient alternative to puff pastry.
  • Serve these as a savory snack or alongside soups and salads for a flavorful accompaniment.
