Description

Gooey Butter Cream Cheese Cake Mix Bars combine the convenience of a cake mix with a rich, creamy cream cheese filling to create a delightful, gooey dessert bar. With a buttery crust and a smooth, sweet topping, these bars are perfect for potlucks, gatherings, or anytime you crave a quick and indulgent treat.

Ingredients

Scale

Crust

  • 1 box (15.25 oz) yellow cake mix
  • 1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted

Filling

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Optional Topping

  • Powdered sugar, for dusting

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven and prepare pan: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9×13-inch baking pan or line it with parchment paper for easy removal of the bars.
  2. Make the crust: In a medium bowl, combine the yellow cake mix with the melted unsalted butter. Stir until the mixture forms a crumbly texture that holds together when pressed. Press this mixture evenly into the bottom of the prepared baking pan to create the crust layer.
  3. Prepare the filling: In a separate bowl, beat together the softened cream cheese, granulated sugar, egg, and vanilla extract. Mix until the filling is smooth and creamy without any lumps.
  4. Assemble and bake: Pour the cream cheese mixture over the crust in the baking pan, spreading it evenly to cover the entire surface. Bake in the preheated oven for 35 to 40 minutes until the filling is set and has a light golden color on top.
  5. Cool and serve: Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan to firm up. Once cooled, slice into 24 bars. If desired, dust the tops with powdered sugar before serving for an added touch of sweetness and presentation.

Notes

  • Ensure the cream cheese is fully softened for a smooth filling without lumps.
  • Do not overbake; the bars should be set but still gooey in the center.
  • Using parchment paper helps with easy removal and cleaner slicing.
  • Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 5 days.
  • These bars can be served chilled or at room temperature depending on your preference.
