Description

This Hot and Spicy Beef recipe is a quick and flavorful Asian-inspired stir-fry featuring tender thinly sliced beef sirloin marinated in a savory blend of soy, oyster, hoisin, and chili garlic sauces. Enhanced with fresh garlic, ginger, and colorful bell peppers, this dish delivers a perfect balance of heat and umami, cooked to perfection in just 25 minutes. Ideal for a satisfying weeknight dinner served over rice or noodles.

Ingredients

Scale

Beef and Marinade

  • 1 pound beef sirloin (thinly sliced against the grain)
  • 2 tablespoons soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon oyster sauce
  • 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon chili garlic sauce

Vegetables and Aromatics

  • 4 cloves garlic (minced)
  • 1 tablespoon fresh ginger (grated)
  • 1 red bell pepper (sliced)
  • 1 green bell pepper (sliced)
  • 1 small onion (sliced)
  • 2 green onions (chopped)

Oils and Seasoning

  • 1 teaspoon sesame oil
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper flakes (optional)
  • Salt and black pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Marinate the beef: In a bowl, combine the thinly sliced beef with soy sauce, oyster sauce, hoisin sauce, and chili garlic sauce. Toss thoroughly to coat all pieces evenly. Let the beef marinate for at least 15 minutes to absorb the flavors.
  2. Prepare aromatics: While the beef marinates, mince the garlic and grate the fresh ginger. Slice the red and green bell peppers and the onion. Chop the green onions for garnish.
  3. Heat the pan: Heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat until shimmering.
  4. Cook garlic and ginger: Add the minced garlic and grated ginger to the hot oil. Stir-fry for about 30 seconds until fragrant, being careful not to burn them.
  5. Stir-fry the beef: Increase heat to high and add the marinated beef to the pan. Stir-fry for 2 to 3 minutes until the beef is just browned but not fully cooked through.
  6. Add vegetables: Add the sliced bell peppers and onion to the pan. Continue stir-frying for another 3 to 4 minutes until the vegetables are tender-crisp and the beef is cooked through.
  7. Finish the dish: Stir in the sesame oil, chopped green onions, and crushed red pepper flakes if using. Taste and season with salt and black pepper according to preference.
  8. Serve: Remove from heat and serve the hot and spicy beef immediately over steamed rice or noodles for a complete meal.

Notes

  • For extra heat, increase the chili garlic sauce or add sliced fresh chilies.
  • This dish works well with flank steak or skirt steak as alternatives.
  • To make the recipe gluten-free, use tamari instead of soy sauce and ensure all sauces are labeled gluten-free.
  • Adjust the amount of crushed red pepper flakes according to your spice tolerance.
