Instructions
- Prepare the baking tray: Grease a 9″x13″ baking tray with cooking spray or line it with parchment paper to prevent sticking.
- Melt the butter: Place a large pot on low heat and melt ½ cup of butter gently until fully liquid.
- Add chocolate chips: Add ½ cup of milk chocolate chips to the melted butter and stir continuously until the chocolate is completely melted and smooth.
- Incorporate hot chocolate mix: Stir in ½ cup of hot chocolate mix thoroughly so it’s well combined with the melted chocolate and butter mixture.
- Combine marshmallows: Add the entire bag of large marshmallows and keep stirring continuously until the marshmallows are fully melted into a smooth, sticky mixture.
- Add Rice Krispies cereal: Remove the pot from heat and pour in 6 cups of Rice Krispies cereal. Gently fold the cereal into the marshmallow mixture with a spatula or wooden spoon until evenly coated. Tip: Spraying the spatula with cooking spray helps prevent sticking.
- Mix in mini marshmallows: Gently stir in â…“ cup of mini marshmallows, allowing some to melt slightly while others stay whole for texture variation.
- Spread the mixture: Evenly spread the sticky mixture into the prepared baking tray, pressing down just enough to create a level layer without compacting it too hard.
- Decorate the top: Sprinkle the top with preferred toppings like mini marshmallows, chocolate sprinkles, mini chocolate chips, dehydrated marshmallows, or crushed candy canes. Press lightly to ensure they stick to the surface.
- Cool and serve: Allow the treats to cool completely for about 30 minutes, then slice into 18 to 24 squares. Serve and enjoy your cozy, chocolaty snack!
Notes
- Spray your mixing utensil with cooking spray to prevent the sticky marshmallow mixture from sticking.
- Do not press the treats too firmly into the pan to maintain a light, fluffy texture.
- For variation, try swapping milk chocolate chips with dark or white chocolate chips.
- Add crushed candy canes for a peppermint twist, especially during the holidays.
- Store leftover treats in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 3 days for best freshness.
