Description

Delicious Instant Pot Beef and Cheddar Sandwiches featuring tender, thinly sliced top round roast cooked under pressure, topped with a spicy, creamy cheddar cheese sauce, and served on toasted onion hamburger buns. Perfect for a quick, flavorful meal that combines rich beef and melted cheese with a hint of heat.

Ingredients

Scale

Beef

  • 2 pounds boneless beef top round roast, thinly sliced
  • 1/2 cup reduced-sodium beef broth
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper

Buns

  • 8 onion hamburger buns, buttered and toasted

Spicy Cheese Sauce

  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 tablespoon hot sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 3 cups grated cheddar cheese

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Beef: In the Instant Pot pressure cooking pot, combine the thinly sliced beef, reduced-sodium beef broth, garlic powder, salt, and freshly ground black pepper. Lock the lid securely in place to prepare for pressure cooking.
  2. Pressure Cook the Beef: Select the High Pressure setting on the Instant Pot and set the cook time for 10 minutes. When the cooking finishes, turn off the pressure cooker and allow the pressure to release naturally for 10 minutes, then carefully perform a quick release. Once the valve drops, remove the lid carefully to access the tender cooked beef.
  3. Make the Cheese Sauce: While the beef cooks, melt the unsalted butter in a medium saucepan over medium heat. Sprinkle in the all-purpose flour and cook, stirring frequently, until it begins bubbling and forms a roux. Gradually whisk in the milk in small increments to avoid lumps until the sauce is smooth and thickened. Stir in the hot sauce and salt, then add the grated cheddar cheese gradually, stirring continuously until fully melted and the sauce is creamy and smooth. Remove from heat.
  4. Assemble and Serve: Butter and toast the onion hamburger buns. To serve, place a generous portion of the cooked beef on each toasted bun and ladle the spicy cheddar cheese sauce over the meat. Serve immediately while warm for the best flavor and texture.

Notes

  • Thin slicing the beef helps it cook quickly and become tender in the Instant Pot.
  • Allowing natural pressure release improves meat tenderness.
  • The cheese sauce can be adjusted in spice level by varying the hot sauce amount.
  • For extra flavor, consider adding caramelized onions inside the sandwiches.
  • Use reduced-sodium broth to control saltiness, as the cheese is already salty.
