Slider Ingredients
- 12 slider rolls (Hawaiian or brioche), sliced in half
- 1/2 pound sliced roasted turkey breast
- 6 slices cooked bacon, cut in half
- 1 1/2 cups shredded sharp white cheddar cheese
- 2 medium tomatoes, thinly sliced
Mornay Sauce
- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour
- 1 1/2 cups whole milk
- 1/4 teaspoon ground nutmeg
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
- 1/2 cup shredded sharp white cheddar cheese (half from total)
Finishing Touches
- 2 tablespoons melted butter (for brushing)
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- 1/2 teaspoon dried parsley
Instructions
- Preheat and Prepare: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish to prevent sticking and ensure easy removal of the sliders.
- Make the Mornay Sauce: In a medium saucepan over medium heat, melt 3 tablespoons of unsalted butter. Whisk in 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour and cook for about 1 minute to form a roux. Gradually whisk in 1 1/2 cups of whole milk and continue stirring until the sauce thickens, about 3 to 5 minutes. Add ground nutmeg, salt, black pepper, 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese, and half of the shredded sharp white cheddar cheese. Stir until smooth, then remove from heat.
- Assemble the Sliders: Arrange the bottom halves of the slider rolls evenly in the prepared baking dish. Layer them with sliced roasted turkey, thin tomato slices, halved cooked bacon, and the remaining shredded cheddar cheese.
- Add the Sauce and Top: Spoon the warm Mornay sauce evenly over the layered ingredients. Then place the top halves of the slider rolls over the sauced layers.
- Brush and Bake: In a small bowl, mix melted butter with garlic powder and dried parsley. Brush this flavorful mixture over the tops of the slider rolls. Loosely cover the baking dish with foil and bake for 15 minutes. Remove the foil and bake an additional 5 to 7 minutes uncovered until the tops are golden brown and the cheese is bubbly.
- Serve and Enjoy: Remove from the oven and serve warm. These sliders make an excellent party appetizer or game-day snack that’s sure to impress your guests.
Notes
- Use leftover turkey or deli turkey slices if preferred to save time.
- For a spicy variation, add a pinch of cayenne pepper to the Mornay sauce for some heat.
- Ensure to not overbake to keep the sliders moist and avoid drying out the turkey.
- Substitute slider rolls with mini brioche buns if Hawaiian rolls are unavailable.
