Ingredients
Scale
Pizza Base
- 1 pound pizza dough (store-bought or homemade)
- 2 tablespoons all-purpose flour (for dusting)
- 1 tablespoon olive oil
- 2 large egg whites
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Toppings
- 1 cup pizza sauce
- 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
- 1/2 cup shredded provolone cheese (optional)
- 1/4 cup sliced black olives
- Optional toppings: thinly sliced pepperoni, fresh basil leaves
Instructions
- Prepare work surface: Lightly flour your work surface with 2 tablespoons of all-purpose flour to prevent sticking when rolling out the dough.
- Roll out dough: Roll the pizza dough to about 1/8 inch thickness. If using pre-made dough, let it come to room temperature first for easier handling.
- Cut dough circles: Using a 3-inch cookie cutter or sharp knife, cut out 12-15 circles of dough, adjusting quantity depending on size preference.
- Arrange dough circles: Transfer the dough circles to a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, spacing them slightly apart.
- Brush with olive oil: Lightly brush each mini pizza circle with olive oil to enhance browning and flavor.
- Prepare egg white mixture: In a small bowl, whisk together the egg whites, salt, and black pepper until light and frothy. This will create the ghost shape on top.
- Create ghost faces: Spoon a small mound of the egg white mixture onto the center of each mini pizza circle, forming a rounded ghost shape.
- Add ghost eyes: Using a spoon or toothpick, create two small indentations on either side of the egg white mound and place a slice of black olive in each to form the ghost’s eyes.
- Preheat oven: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) to prepare for baking.
- Bake crusts and egg whites: Bake the mini pizzas for 10-12 minutes until the crust is golden brown and the egg white ghost faces are set. Watch carefully towards the end to avoid burning.
- Prepare toppings: While baking, get the pizza sauce and cheeses ready for assembling.
- Add sauce and cheese: Once the pizzas have cooled slightly, spread a thin layer of pizza sauce on each mini pizza carefully avoiding the ghost face. Then sprinkle with shredded mozzarella and provolone cheese as desired.
- Add optional toppings: Add any optional toppings like thinly sliced pepperoni or fresh basil leaves on top of the cheese layer.
- Final bake: Return the topped mini pizzas to the oven and bake for an additional 2-3 minutes until the cheese has melted and is bubbly.
- Cool and serve: Allow the mini pizzas to cool slightly before serving. Garnish with Halloween sprinkles or candies for a festive touch if desired.
- Enjoy: Serve immediately and enjoy these spooky and delicious mini ghost pizzas with friends and family at your Halloween party.
Notes
- Ensure the egg whites are whisked until frothy to create a puffed ghost shape during baking.
- Watch the pizzas closely during baking to prevent overcooking or burning, especially the egg white ghosts.
- You can customize the ghost eyes using small pieces of other black ingredients, such as capers or black beans.
- Use fresh or store-bought pizza dough based on convenience, but allow dough to reach room temperature for easier handling.
- Optional toppings like pepperoni and basil add extra flavor but can be omitted for a simpler pizza.
- For a crispier crust, bake on a preheated pizza stone if available.
