Description

These Nutella Puff Pastries are a delightful and easy-to-make dessert featuring flaky puff pastry twisted with rich Nutella hazelnut spread. Perfect as a sweet treat for breakfast, brunch, or a snack, these golden, crispy twists are brushed with egg wash for a beautiful shine and dusted with confectionery sugar for an elegant finish.

Ingredients

Scale

Pastry

  • 1 package prepared puff pastry, thawed
  • ¾ cup Nutella or hazelnut spread

Egg Wash

  • 2 eggs

Topping

  • 3 tbsp confectionery sugar

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to ensure it’s hot and ready for baking the pastries as soon as they are prepared.
  2. Prepare Puff Pastry: Roll out the thawed puff pastry sheets on a clean, flat surface to smooth them out and prepare for layering.
  3. Spread Nutella: Evenly spread the Nutella or hazelnut spread over one sheet of the puff pastry, leaving a small border around the edges to seal it properly.
  4. Layer Pastry Sheets: Place the second puff pastry sheet on top of the Nutella-covered one, aligning the edges carefully to enclose the filling.
  5. Cut and Twist: Cut the layered pastry into ½-inch wide strips. Gently twist each strip several times to create a spiral-shaped pastry twist.
  6. Arrange and Brush: Place the twisted pastries on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper, then brush the tops generously with the beaten egg wash to give them a glossy finish.
  7. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for 10-15 minutes until the pastries are puffed up and golden brown.
  8. Cool and Dust: Allow the pastries to cool slightly once out of the oven, then dust them with confectionery sugar before serving for a sweet, elegant touch.

Notes

  • Ensure the puff pastry is properly thawed before rolling to avoid cracking.
  • For extra flavor, sprinkle a pinch of cinnamon or chopped nuts inside before layering.
  • The strips can be made wider if you prefer thicker twists that are less crispy and more tender.
  • Use a sharp knife or pizza cutter for clean, even cuts.
  • Egg wash can be made with just egg yolk or whole eggs according to preference.
  • Serve warm for the best taste and texture.
