Description

Celebrate patriotic holidays with these delightful Patriotic Chocolate Cake Balls. Made from moist chocolate cake mixed with creamy frosting and coated in smooth white chocolate, these bite-sized treats are decorated with red, white, and blue sprinkles for a festive look. Perfect for Memorial Day, Fourth of July, or Labor Day gatherings, they’re easy to make and even easier to enjoy!

Ingredients

Scale

Chocolate Cake

  • 1 box chocolate cake mix (plus ingredients listed on the box)

Filling

  • 1½ cups chocolate frosting (store-bought or homemade)

Coating and Decoration

  • 12 ounces white chocolate or vanilla almond bark (for coating)
  • Red, white, and blue sprinkles
  • Optional: red or blue candy melts for drizzle

Instructions

  1. Bake the Cake: Prepare the chocolate cake according to the package directions using a 9×13-inch pan. Once baked, allow the cake to cool completely before proceeding.
  2. Crumble and Mix: Break the cooled cake into fine crumbs inside a large bowl. Add the chocolate frosting and mix thoroughly until the mixture has a dough-like consistency.
  3. Shape Cake Balls: Roll the cake mixture into 1-inch balls and place them on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Chill in the refrigerator for at least 1 hour or freeze for 20–30 minutes until firm.
  4. Melt Coating: Melt the white chocolate or vanilla almond bark in a microwave-safe bowl in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until smooth and fully melted.
  5. Dip and Decorate: Using a fork or dipping tool, dip each chilled cake ball into the melted coating. Let excess chocolate drip off and place the balls back onto the parchment-lined tray. Immediately sprinkle with red, white, and blue sprinkles for a festive touch.
  6. Optional Drizzle: For extra flair, melt red or blue candy melts and drizzle them over the coated cake balls.
  7. Set the Coating: Allow the coated cake balls to set at room temperature or refrigerate until the coating hardens completely.

Notes

  • Store cake balls in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to one week.
  • These cake balls freeze well and make excellent treats for parties or holiday celebrations such as Memorial Day, Fourth of July, or Labor Day.
