Description

This Pizza Burger Pie combines the flavors of a classic cheeseburger with the convenience of a pizza pie. Ground beef cooked with Italian seasonings and pizza sauce forms a hearty base, topped with mozzarella, cheddar, and optional pepperoni or sausage, all baked under an egg and milk batter crust for a unique, savory dish perfect for family dinners.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • ½ teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon Italian seasoning
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • 1 cup pizza sauce or marinara sauce
  • 1 cup shredded mozzarella cheese
  • ½ cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • ½ cup sliced pepperoni or chopped cooked sausage (optional)

Batter Ingredients

  • 2 large eggs
  • ½ cup milk
  • ½ cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 tablespoon grated Parmesan cheese (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat and prepare dish: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C) and lightly grease a 9-inch pie dish to prevent sticking.
  2. Cook the beef mixture: In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and chopped onion until browned and fully cooked. Drain any excess fat from the skillet.
  3. Season and combine: Stir in garlic powder, Italian seasoning, salt, black pepper, and pizza sauce. Allow to cook for an additional 2–3 minutes until the sauce is warmed through.
  4. Assemble the pie base: Transfer the meat mixture evenly into the prepared pie dish, spreading it into an even layer.
  5. Add cheese and optional toppings: Sprinkle shredded mozzarella and cheddar cheese evenly over the meat layer. Add the optional sliced pepperoni or cooked sausage on top.
  6. Prepare the batter: In a small bowl, whisk together eggs, milk, flour, and grated Parmesan cheese until smooth and well combined.
  7. Pour batter and bake: Pour the batter evenly over the cheese and meat filling, spreading gently if needed. Bake in the preheated oven for 25–30 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and fully set.
  8. Cool and serve: Remove from the oven and let the pie cool for 5 minutes before slicing and serving.

Notes

  • For a supreme-style pie, add extra cheese or olives on top before baking.
  • Serve with a side salad or garlic bread for a complete meal.
