Description

This easy and delicious Pizza Casserole combines the flavors of classic pizza in a comforting casserole form, featuring a soft Bisquick crust layered with pizza sauce, pepperoni, and melted mozzarella cheese. Perfect for a family dinner or casual gathering, it bakes quickly to a golden bubbly masterpiece.

Ingredients

Scale

Crust

  • 3 â…“ cups Bisquick baking mix
  • 1 cup water
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 ½ teaspoons Italian seasoning

Layers

  • 1 (14-15 ounce) jar pizza sauce
  • 6 ounces sliced pepperoni
  • 2 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat and Prep: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish with cooking spray to prevent sticking.
  2. Make Crust: In a medium bowl, mix together the Bisquick baking mix, garlic powder, and Italian seasoning. Slowly add 1 cup of water and stir until a soft dough forms. If the dough is too sticky, add a little more Bisquick; if too dry, add a bit more water to reach the soft dough consistency.
  3. Assemble Layers: Divide the dough in half. Drop spoonfuls of half the dough onto the bottom of the prepared baking dish, spreading slightly to form an even base. Drizzle half of the pizza sauce over the dough layer. Next, evenly layer half of the pepperoni slices and then half of the shredded mozzarella cheese. Repeat with the remaining dough, pizza sauce, pepperoni, and cheese to create a second layer.
  4. Bake: Place the casserole in the preheated oven and bake for 20-25 minutes, or until the cheese is melted and bubbly and the crust is golden brown around the edges.
  5. Serve: Remove the casserole from the oven, allow it to cool slightly, then cut into squares. Serve warm and enjoy the comforting pizza flavors in a casserole form.

Notes

  • You can customize the toppings to your liking by adding vegetables like bell peppers or mushrooms.
  • Use a mixture of mozzarella and cheddar cheese for a different flavor profile.
  • To make it spicier, add red pepper flakes to the sauce or dough mix.
  • Ensure the dough is soft but not too sticky for easier spreading in the pan.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated and reheated in the oven for best texture retention.
