Description

These Savory Spinach and Feta Stuffed Puff Pastries are a delicious and easy-to-make appetizer or snack. Featuring a flaky, golden puff pastry filled with a flavorful blend of spinach, red onions, feta, and ricotta cheese, seasoned with garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Baked to perfection, these pastries offer a delightful combination of creamy, tangy, and savory flavors in every bite.

Ingredients

Scale

Pastry

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 egg (for egg wash)

Filling

  • 2 cups fresh spinach, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1/4 cup red onion, finely chopped
  • 1/4 cup feta cheese, crumbled
  • 1/4 cup ricotta cheese
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) to prepare for baking the pastries.
  2. Sauté Onions: Heat the olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add the finely chopped red onion and sauté for 2-3 minutes until softened and fragrant.
  3. Cook Spinach: Add the chopped spinach to the skillet and cook for another 2-3 minutes, stirring frequently, until the spinach wilts. Remove from heat and allow the mixture to cool slightly.
  4. Mix Filling: In a medium bowl, combine the cooled spinach and onion mixture with crumbled feta cheese, ricotta cheese, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Stir well to evenly distribute the ingredients.
  5. Prepare Puff Pastry: On a lightly floured surface, roll out the puff pastry sheet and cut it into 4 equal squares.
  6. Fill Pastries: Spoon a generous amount of the spinach and cheese filling into the center of each pastry square.
  7. Seal Pastries: Fold each square over to form triangles or rectangles, pressing and pinching the edges firmly to seal the filling inside.
  8. Apply Egg Wash: Beat the egg and brush the egg wash over the top of each sealed pastry. This will give them a golden, glossy finish when baked.
  9. Bake: Place the pastries on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes or until the puff pastry is golden brown and puffed.
  10. Serve: Remove from the oven and let the pastries cool slightly before serving to enjoy the flavors at their best.

Notes

  • You can add herbs like dill or oregano to the filling for extra flavor.
  • Ensure the spinach mixture is not too wet to prevent soggy pastries.
  • Use cold puff pastry sheets for better puff and flakiness.
  • Make sure to seal the edges properly to avoid filling leakage during baking.
  • Serve warm as an appetizer or light meal.
