Description

The Skinny Watermelon Margarita is a refreshing and low-calorie cocktail perfect for summer. Made with fresh watermelon juice, lime, silver tequila, and orange liqueur, this lightened-up version uses a touch of agave nectar to balance the flavors without extra sugar. Served on the rocks with a salted rim and garnished with lime or watermelon slices, it’s a crisp and hydrating drink that celebrates the flavors of summer with a Mexican-inspired twist.

Ingredients

Scale

Juice and Cocktail Mixture

  • 3 cups seedless watermelon, cubed
  • 1/4 cup freshly squeezed lime juice
  • 2 ounces silver tequila
  • 1 ounce orange liqueur (such as Cointreau or triple sec)
  • 1 teaspoon agave nectar (or to taste)

For Serving

  • Ice cubes
  • Coarse salt (for rimming the glass)
  • Lime wedges (for garnish)
  • Watermelon slices (for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Prepare Watermelon Juice: Place the watermelon cubes in a blender and blend until smooth. For a smoother drink, strain the juice through a fine mesh sieve into a bowl or measuring cup to remove pulp.
  2. Mix Cocktail: In a cocktail shaker, combine 1 cup of the prepared watermelon juice, freshly squeezed lime juice, silver tequila, orange liqueur, and agave nectar.
  3. Shake with Ice: Add a handful of ice cubes to the shaker and shake vigorously for about 15 seconds to chill and blend the flavors.
  4. Rim the Glass: Rub a lime wedge around the rim of your serving glass, then dip it into coarse salt to create a salted rim.
  5. Serve: Fill the glass with fresh ice cubes and strain the margarita mixture into the glass. Garnish with a lime wedge or a slice of watermelon. Serve immediately and enjoy.

Notes

  • Adjust the sweetness by adding more or less agave nectar according to taste.
  • For a frozen version, blend all ingredients with ice cubes instead of shaking.
  • Use seedless watermelon for easier blending and smoother juice.
  • Coarse salt adds the traditional margarita touch but can be omitted to reduce sodium intake.
