Ingredients
Scale
Main Ingredients
- 1 lb ground meat (chicken, pork, turkey, or beef)
- 4 cups bok choy, chopped (about 4 medium heads)
- 2 tablespoons vegetable oil (or sesame oil for extra flavor)
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tablespoon ginger, minced
Seasonings & Sauces
- 2 tablespoons soy sauce (low-sodium recommended)
- 1 tablespoon oyster sauce (optional, for extra umami)
- 1 tablespoon hoisin sauce (optional, for sweetness)
- 1 teaspoon rice vinegar
- 1 tablespoon sugar (optional, to balance flavors)
- 1 teaspoon sesame oil (optional, for garnish)
Optional Garnishes
- Red pepper flakes (optional, for heat)
- Fresh cilantro or green onions for garnish (optional)
Instructions
- Prepare the Bok Choy: Rinse the bok choy thoroughly to remove any dirt trapped between the leaves. Chop the bok choy into bite-sized pieces and set aside.
- Cook the Ground Meat: Heat 1 tablespoon of vegetable oil in a large skillet or wok over medium-high heat. Add the ground meat and cook, breaking it apart with a spoon, until browned and fully cooked, about 5 to 7 minutes. Remove the cooked meat from the pan and set aside.
- Sauté Aromatics: In the same skillet, add another tablespoon of oil if needed. Add the finely chopped onion, minced garlic, and minced ginger. Sauté for 2 to 3 minutes until fragrant and the onions are softened.
- Add the Bok Choy: Add the chopped bok choy to the pan, stirring well to coat it evenly with the oil and aromatics. Cook for 3 to 4 minutes until the bok choy is tender but still retains some crispness.
- Stir in Sauces: Return the cooked ground meat to the skillet. Stir in the soy sauce, oyster sauce (if using), hoisin sauce (if using), rice vinegar, and sugar. Mix thoroughly and cook for another 2 to 3 minutes to allow the flavors to meld together.
- Finish and Serve: Sprinkle red pepper flakes over the dish if you want to add heat. Drizzle with sesame oil for extra flavor. Garnish with fresh cilantro or green onions if desired. Serve immediately over steamed rice or noodles for a complete meal.
Notes
- You can substitute any ground meat like chicken, pork, turkey, or beef depending on your preference.
- Using sesame oil instead of vegetable oil will add a nutty flavor to the dish.
- Oyster and hoisin sauces are optional but enhance the umami and sweetness.
- Adjust sugar and sauces to taste for desired sweetness and saltiness.
- Serve over rice or noodles for a satisfying meal.
- Add red pepper flakes sparingly to control the heat level.
