Ingredients
- 1 cup powdered sugar
- 2–3 teaspoons milk (plus more as needed)
- 2 teaspoons light corn syrup
- 1/4 teaspoon vanilla or almond extract
- Gel food coloring (optional)
Instructions
- Mix powdered sugar and milk: In a small bowl, whisk together powdered sugar and 2 teaspoons of milk until smooth.
- Add corn syrup and extract: Stir in corn syrup and vanilla or almond extract until the icing becomes glossy and flows slightly off the spoon.
- Adjust consistency: If the icing is too thick, add milk a few drops at a time. Use less milk for thicker icing (ideal for outlining) and more for thinner icing (for flooding cookies).
- Color the icing: Divide the icing into separate bowls if desired and tint each with a small amount of gel food coloring, stirring until fully blended.
- Decorate cookies: Use the icing immediately to decorate cooled sugar cookies. Allow decorated cookies to sit at room temperature for 4–8 hours until the icing fully sets.
Notes
- This icing hardens with a shiny finish, perfect for stacking and gifting.
- Store leftover icing in an airtight container for up to 3 days.
