Description

Sweet Heat Smashed Potatoes are crispy, roasted baby potatoes coated in a flavorful blend of honey, hot sauce, and spices for a perfect balance of sweet and spicy. This easy-to-make side dish is ideal for pairing with grilled meats or enjoying as a zesty party snack.

Ingredients

Scale

Potatoes

  • 1 1/2 lbs baby potatoes (red or gold)

Coating

  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • 2 tbsp melted butter
  • 1 tbsp honey
  • 1 tsp hot sauce (or more to taste)
  • 1/2 tsp smoked paprika
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/4 tsp cayenne pepper
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper

Garnish (optional)

  • Chopped parsley or green onions

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat the oven to 425°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper to prepare for roasting.
  2. Boil Potatoes: Place baby potatoes in a large pot, cover with water, and bring to a boil. Cook for 15–20 minutes, or until fork-tender. Drain and let cool slightly.
  3. Smash Potatoes: Transfer potatoes to the prepared baking sheet. Use the bottom of a glass or a fork to gently smash each potato to about 1/2 inch thick.
  4. Prepare Coating: In a small bowl, mix together olive oil, melted butter, honey, hot sauce, smoked paprika, garlic powder, cayenne, salt, and black pepper to create a flavorful coating.
  5. Brush Potatoes: Brush the mixture generously over the smashed potatoes to ensure they are fully coated with the sweet and spicy blend.
  6. Roast Potatoes: Roast in the oven for 25–30 minutes, flipping once halfway through, until the potatoes are crispy and golden on the edges.
  7. Garnish and Serve: Remove from the oven and sprinkle with chopped parsley or green onions if desired. Serve the smashed potatoes hot.

Notes

  • Adjust the heat level by increasing or reducing the cayenne pepper and hot sauce to suit your taste.
  • These smashed potatoes pair perfectly with grilled meats, burgers, or make a delicious spicy party snack.
